Why Getting Your AC Maintained THIS Month Saves You Big Time
March 14, 2018
Summer is right around the corner, which means you’ll be using your AC more and more to stay cool.
That’s why we’ve decided to share a little money-saving tip: Get your AC maintained in April.
Simple enough, right?
We’ll share why it’s a good idea to schedule your AC maintenance this month and what goes into a normal AC check-up...
Why April is the best month to get AC maintenance
Scheduling AC maintenance in April saves you money for the following reasons:
You’ll beat the summer rush
You’ll prevent a breakdown in the summer
You’ll lower your monthly energy bills
#1: You’ll beat the summer rush
Scheduling maintenance in the middle of summer is a hassle because it’s the busiest time of year for us. That means you have to work around our techs’ schedules and wait for a time where we can fit you in.
And if you need same-day or priority service in the middle of summer, you’ll end up spending more if you’re in a hurry to get your AC maintained.
On the other hand, if you schedule your AC maintenance in April, then you’re more in control of your schedule—which means you can pick a time that’s convenient for you.
#2: You’ll prevent a breakdown in the summer
The last thing anybody wants is to be stuck without a working AC in the middle of summer.
But if you skip your AC maintenance, you increase the risk of an AC breakdown, which could lead to an expensive AC repair.
Think of it this way: if you’re planning a long road trip, you wouldn’t skip an oil change/tune-up for your car, right? You’d want to make sure your car is 100% percent ready for the trip—and won’t breakdown, leaving you stranded on the side of the road.
AC maintenance should follow the same logic: Getting your AC maintained NOW means it will be 100% ready for the hot weather and won’t leave you stranded in the heat come midsummer.
#3: You’ll lower your monthly energy bills
In addition to saving money on potential repairs, getting AC maintenance can actually reduce your monthly energy bills too.
Let’s go back to the car analogy: Just like a tune-up improves the car’s gas mileage, AC maintenance improves the unit’s operational efficiency—which just means the system can provide the same amount of cooling while using less energy.
And when you improve your AC’s energy efficiency, you can see some real savings (one source estimates as much as 15% per month)—especially when you’re using your air conditioner all the time during summer.
What goes into a typical AC maintenance visit?
When you hire a technician to perform an AC tune-up, they should follow the guidelines established by EnergyStar.gov:
The technician should...
Tighten and check all electrical connections
Lubricate all moving parts
Clear and clogs in the condensate drain
Clean the evaporator and condenser coils
Check your refrigerant levels
Make sure your blower is running smoothly
Replace dirty air filters
If your technician finds any issues with your AC system, they’ll let you know your options (repair or replace a part) and give you a quote to fix the issue.
